In what may be the most bizarre headline of the year, former President Donald Trump has accused ex-FBI Director James Comey of posting a coded message calling for his assassination — using a photo of seashells on a beach. 🏖️😳
Comey posted an Instagram photo of shells arranged to form the number 8647, captioning it simply: “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.” But according to Trump and his allies, the photo was anything but innocent.
🔢 Decoding “8647”: Harmless or Homicidal?
Here's where things get dicey:
“86” is American slang for ejecting, removing, or eliminating something — often used in bars or restaurants to cancel an item or kick someone out.
“47” refers to Trump, who is officially the 47th president after winning a second non-consecutive term.
Together? Trump says the message is clear: “Eliminate Trump.”
“He knew exactly what that meant,” Trump told Fox News in an interview from Abu Dhabi.
“A child knows what that meant. That meant assassination. And it says it loud and clear.”
🚨 Secret Service Responds
The Secret Service confirmed it has launched a formal investigation into the post.
“We are aware of the social media posts by the former FBI Director & we take rhetoric like this very seriously,” said Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi.
While Comey quickly deleted the post, claiming he misunderstood the symbolism, the damage — at least politically — had already been done.
“I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence,” Comey said.
“It never occurred to me, but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down.”
🧨 Political Firestorm
The incident has ignited fury across conservative circles and renewed debates over dangerous political rhetoric.
Tulsi Gabbard, now Director of National Intelligence, said Comey’s post was no accident:
“He just issued a call to action to murder the president of the United States,” she posted on X.
“He knew exactly what he was doing and must be held accountable under the full force of the law.”
Homeland Security Director Kristi Noem echoed the sentiment:
“Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey just called for the assassination of POTUS Trump… DHS and Secret Service is investigating this threat and will respond appropriately.”
Even the FBI, now under Trump-appointed director Kash Patel, has pledged to support the investigation.
🧠 A Pattern of “Coded” Numbers?
It’s not the first time numbers like these have stirred political tensions:
“8646” — a phrase calling to “86” President Biden (the 46th president) — appeared on anti-Biden T-shirts and merchandise online.
Biden himself sparked controversy last summer for saying it was “time to put Trump in a bullseye,” just days before an attempt was made on Trump’s life.
While the symbolism might seem like a stretch, both sides of the political spectrum have been accused of pushing inflammatory language with real-world consequences. 🧨
📚 Timing of the Post Raises Eyebrows
Adding to the speculation is the timing of the post: Comey is days away from releasing a new crime novel titled FDR Drive — the third in his legal thriller series.
The book follows a fictional U.S. attorney battling a far-right podcaster who vilifies immigrants and intellectuals, a character that critics say closely mirrors real-world conservative figures.
Coincidence? Marketing stunt? Or something darker?
America on Edge
This latest controversy comes as political violence continues to rise — with two assassination attempts against Trump in the past year alone, and public trust in major institutions at a breaking point.
As election season heats up, both political parties are being urged to tone down their rhetoric — but incidents like this suggest the war of words may only be getting started.
Final Thought 💭
Whether Comey's seashell post was a poorly timed coincidence or something more sinister, it’s a chilling reminder of how deeply symbolism, politics, and conspiracy have become intertwined in American discourse.
